Lotto players will soon get two chances to win in what has been described as the “biggest ever” change to the drawing process, the UK National Lottery operator has announced.
A single £2 ticket will give players access to two rounds of drawings of six balls each, and they’re able to win in either or both rounds.
Allwyn says this improves chances of winning any prize from one in 9.3 to one in 4.9. The number of lotto millionaires is also expected to double from around 140 a year to 345.
New game introduces first billion-pound jackpot
Allwyn also confirmed it’s going to introduce a game called Powerball to the UK for the first time, which Sky News had revealed exclusively last night.
This will feature the UK’s first “£1bn-plus” jackpot, the world’s biggest overall.
At £4 a ticket, players pick five numbers between 1 and 69 and one Powerball number between 1 and 26 – or they can choose a Lucky Dip.
UK players will compete with players in the US, where the game was founded in 1992.
Tickets for the new lotto will be sold from 7 June while the Powerball launch date is waiting for final regulatory approval.
