Canelo Alvarez is just shy of 70 fights into what has been an outstanding professional career.
The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico entered the professional ranks back in 2005 when he was just 15-years-old. Since then, he has captured world titles in four weight titles and became the first boxer of the ‘four belt era’ to win the undisputed super-middleweight championship.
He has fought, and defeated, an abundance of highly rated fighters during his tenure, including Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev and Miguel Cotto to name a few.
Despite his dominance, the Mexican star fell short in bouts against two of the greatest fighters of their respective generations in Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.
After proving himself to be one of the best fighters on the planet pound-for-pound in recent years, Canelo revealed in a feature with DAZN Boxing who he believes are five of the best fighters on the planet right now, without including himself in the list.
“A lot of good fighters, there is [Terence] Crawford, [Oleksandr] Usyk, [Naoya] Inoue, [Gervonta] Davis, [Dmitry] Bivol is there too.”
Canelo’s most recent outing came against IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull in Riyadh last Saturday, as he became the undisputed champion at 168lbs once again and the first fighter in boxing history to achieve this feat.
Following his victory over Scull, the Mexican great will go on to face Terence Crawford in a mega-fight later this year after it was revealed that the pound-for-pound stars would finally lock horns after months of speculation.
