DFB director Rudi Völler congratulated Spain on a fantastic win at EURO 2024 this summer in Germany — but expressed optimism that the host nation was well on its way back, too.

“Spain absolutely deserved to win the tournament. They mastered possession football, but also transition via their wingers,” Völler said in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia.

Asked what Germany was missing, though, Völler did not think it was a lot.

“To be honest, not that much,” Völler added. “We were the only team to force them into extra time in the knockout games, we were very close. We have Florian Wirtz [Bayer Leverkusen[ and Jamal Musiala [Bayern Munich]. The future belongs to them. The EUROs have shown that we’re moving towards the top of the world.”

Julian Nagelsmann seems to have brought the good vibes back to the German men’s national team. Can they keep up the momentum all the way to the 2026 Men’s World Cup?
