Serena Williams has joined the growing number of people turning to GLP-1 medications as a weight-loss solution.
The tennis legend has shed more than 31 pounds with the help of the treatment.
“I feel great. I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally,” Williams told People.
In recent years, GLP-1 medications have become a popular tool for celebrities and everyday adults alike looking to manage their weight.
Data from KFF shows that about one in eight adults report having taken a GLP-1 agonist at some point, often after struggling to lose weight through traditional methods—which is exactly what Williams experienced.

“I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained,” Williams said. “It was crazy because I’d never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at.”
Williams says her weight challenges started after giving birth to her first daughter in 2017 and resurfaced after her second daughter’s birth in 2023. Although she initially lost a significant amount of weight within two weeks, progress eventually stalled.
“I had never taken shortcuts in my career and always worked really hard. I know what it takes to be the best. So it was very frustrating to do all the same things and never be able to change that number on the scale or the way my body looked,” she said.
With many celebrities keeping their use of GLP-1 treatments on the hush-hush, Williams felt it was important to share her weight-loss journey publicly and be transparent about her usage.
