The British Pound/Japanese Yen (GBP/JPY) is known as a currency pair with significant price movement. We tested the automated trading EA “ULTRA CORE GJ M15,” which specializes in its 15-minute timeframe, using 10 years of data.
I will write down the resulting figures, how to interpret them, and points to note exactly as they are.

3. How to Interpret the Figures

  • A win rate of 68.57% is a level where you win a little over two out of three times. However, superiority is not determined by win rate alone; it must be viewed using the PF, which includes the magnitude of wins and losses.

  • A PF of 1.41 means that total profit is approximately 1.4 times the total loss (based on historical data).

  • A maximum DD of 26.97% means there was a phase during the verification period where assets temporarily decreased by approximately 27%. It is necessary to keep in mind that this targets a currency with volatile price movements.

  • 929 trades: 929 trades over more than 10 years. Compared to pairs like the Dollar/Yen, the number of trades is not high, but it is a certain volume of trades.

4. Differences in Fund Management

Using the same logic, if switched to a Martingale method (base lot 2, multiplier 1.2, same initial capital of 1 million yen, same period), the PF was 1.43 with a maximum DD of 28.63%. Compared to a fixed lot, the DD is slightly larger. Martingale is a method where the lot size is increased by the multiplier after consecutive losses. The maximum consecutive losses during the verification period were 5, in which case the lot size mathematically increases to approximately 5.0 lots (2 × 1.2 to the power of 5). If a losing streak exceeding the verification period occurs, both the lot size and losses will increase further. The maximum DD is the result of one past path and is not a future upper limit. A compound interest (money management) mode is also included, but it is intended for advanced users because it increases the DD.

5. Limitations of this backtest

  • This is a verification based on historical data and does not guarantee future performance.

  • All figures in this article are from backtests (historical data). The actual operation (forward) results of our lab are not included in this article. Actual results may be lower than the backtest results during certain periods.

  • Assumptions during backtesting: Spreads are ‘variable’ (FXTF historical data), and trading commissions are not separately factored in. Since backtesting on historical data is used to determine the main parameters of the EA, it may be influenced by fitting to past data (over-optimization).

  • GBP/JPY is a currency pair where spreads tend to widen, and execution slippage is likely to affect the results.

  • Different results may occur in market environments not included in the verification period.

  • We recommend checking the operation on a demo account before actual trading.
