If you look at one truly great thing about professional boxing this year it was how the standard went through the roof across all weights internationally worldwide.
What a year for professional boxing and pound for pound.
The pound for pound list was and is incredibly difficult to compile these days, literally, more than ever. It is almost impossible to make a perfect top 10 pound for pound list in boxing now such is the standard and quality of fighters across all weight divisions.
Hence the term, pound for pound, regardless of weight category.
If you look at the recent fights just gone in Saudi Arabia on December 27th involving Naoya Inoue and Junto Nakatani — both won their fights setting up the super fight between one another.

Great.
But if you observe both of those fights recently both were actually getting better as boxers in both of those fights as well.
Both had vastly improved, which is very difficult to do, at that level, to keep improving and get better as a fighter, but they still are.
So is our number one pound for pound boxing champion at the moment from Ukraine Oleksandr Usyk, he is still getting better as a fighter nearly at 40.
This shows you that the standard of professional boxing pound for pound is at its highest it has ever been now for decades.
What an amazing time for professional boxing ahead in 2026 and beyond — roll on.
