Deputies in Onslow County came across a prehistoric roadside catch Wednesday afternoon.
WITN reports a 350 to 400 pound alligator was just hanging out in the middle of Old 30 Road, outside of Jacksonville.
Deputies estimate the gator was almost 10 feet long.
The gator was found near the intersection with Rocky Run Road and they believe he wandered from a nearby pond.
After taping its mouth shut, the alligator was safely relocated to a boat launch near Camp Geiger, where it was put back in its natural habitat.
“Witnesses say he was just chilling and snapping, clearly ignoring the ‘no loitering or lounging on roadways’ sign,” the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook. “Deputies reported no injuries, unless you count his pride when the gator refused to be cuffed.”
