US Stock Market Live: Lufthansa Says Earnings Visibility Limited
Deutsche Lufthansa AG cautioned that it has only limited visibility into the latter part of the year as trade tensions and changing consumer behavior throw the global economy into disarray.
Europe’s biggest airline group said macroeconomic uncertainty, particularly the US-Europe trade conflict, is clouding forecasts for the key summer season. Lufthansa has set up a task force to monitor demand and adjust capacity if needed. Among possible positive factors are lower fuel prices, which could act as a cushion against any weakness, the company said.
The company reported higher passengers and revenue on transatlantic flights compared with the previous year, suggesting that demand on that key route remains robust even as some other carriers cautioned that they’ve started seeing a drop-off in demand. The airline said it carried about 25% more passengers from the US to Europe in March than in the same month last year.
