The Swedish star produced a terrific opening round show at Wentworth alongside Bethpage buddy Matt Fitzpatrick
Lethal Ludvig Aberg used Euro vibes to storm to the summit of the BMW PGA Championship.
The super Swede gave all the right signals to Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald with a sizzling 64 on day one at Wentworth.
Aberg was paired alongside Bethpage team-mate Matt Fitzpatrick and the pair sparked off each other as the Sheffield man carded a 66 to sit just two behind.
The Scandinavian golfer felt right at home with the English star and also on the West Course as he notched a third round of seven birdies or more in five outings on the track.
Aberg said: “Yeah, Matt, we get along great. He’s a great guy. It’s very easy to be around him and we can chat about all sorts of things that are not even golf related, so that’s always nice.
“Today was one of them days where we both played pretty well. Hopefully we can do that in New York in a couple weeks’ time, too.”
Aberg lapped up the atmosphere at Wentworth and ignored the short delay for lightning threat to finish with a flourish on the last and joint Frenchman Tom Vaillant at the summit of the standings.
He added: “Oh, absolutely. It’s one of my favourite events of the year. I think I said that multiple times in the last couple days and it’s really nice to be here.
“The golf course is in great shape and the crowds are always amazing. It’s a treat to play well here and it’s a treat to play well here, as well.
“It was very efficient. I felt like once I got on the greens, I was rolling the putter really nice and tried to be aggressive with the speed. Managed to make a lot of putts, which is nice.
“Any time you shoot that kind of score, I think you need to be good on the greens and that was what it was.”
Vaillant was heading straight for his bed after an early start and sharp finish as he shot the same as Aberg to join the head of the early pacesetters.
He said: “It was a wake-up at 3.50am and then it was very nice. I played well.
“I tried to stay patient and give myself opportunities because I know I’m playing well the last couple weeks. So it showed that I can go low, so that’s nice.
“It was not really windy, so that was the main thing. There was no wind. Sometimes playing quite early is easy.
“I’ll just have some rest and a good nap this afternoon and get ready for tomorrow.
“That’s the main strategy, hitting as many greens as I can and staying steady on the fat side and having the right pace.”
