Waitrose Andover has opened the doors of its Chantry Street store following a multi-million pound refurbishment designed to deliver the very best experience for customers.

The transformation brings a host of new features and improvements to the 14,000 sq. ft. branch, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary (the original Waitrose Andover site opened in 1970 with the current site opened in 1990). Relaunching at 8am on Friday 24th October, Waitrose Andover is primed and ready to greet customers with everything from fresh produce and the best quality meat, fish and cheese to dinner from food lovers’ favourite – Waitrose No. 1, as well as desserts and beer, wine and spirits.
Branch Manager, Sam Vermeulen, who leads a team of 105 Partners at the shop, said: “Waitrose has been part of the Andover community for more than 55 years and we are lucky to have so many loyal shoppers. We’ve listened to their feedback and can now unveil our refreshed store. We look forward to celebrating with our customers today and offering the very best food and drink plus great service for many more years to come.”
Highlights of the multi-million pound investment include:
- Sushi Counter: offering a range of sushi dishes freshly made everyday by skilled sushi artisans.
- Dedicated John Lewis Click and Collect Desk: for faster collections and returns.
- New Refrigeration: replaced for improved energy efficiency.
- Improved Lighting: making the store lighter and brighter for a more navigable experience.
Local customers are able to pick up John Lewis, Waitrose Entertaining and Waitrose Cellar orders in store, as well as order home delivery from the shop using Deliveroo, Just Eat and UberEats.
The first shoppers through the doors will be greeted with the gift of a free tote bag for their groceries.
Customers can also enjoy welcome drinks from 8am to 10.30am and free tastings of Waitrose No.1 Italian Mixed Antipasti, Waitrose No.1 Cornish Quartz Cheddar Shortbread, Waitrose No.1 Treacle Torte, Waitrose Croissants and Waitrose Apricot Preserve.
They can also try their luck on the ‘spin and win wheel’ from 8am to 7pm to be in with a chance of securing one of the following prizes: £5 gift card, Waitrose Premium Foldaway Bag, Waitrose Clotted Cream Fudge, and Waitrose No.1 Fairtrade Blonde Chocolate with Feuilletine & Sea Salt.
Community Matters
Waitrose stores, including Andover, have recently reinstated the familiar green tokens voting stations, with customers encouraged to vote for the cause closest to their hearts.
The Waitrose Community Matters programme has, to date, donated over £50m to good causes across the country, and was the first scheme of its kind to be introduced to a supermarket back in 2008.
Every quarter, the project with the most votes in each store will receive £1,500, while the second and third receive £1,000 and £500 respectively. At Waitrose Andover, customers can currently vote for Knights Enham School, Andover Neighbourcare and Andover Parkinson’s Cafe.
Nationwide Investment
Waitrose is investing in every shop nationwide, from refurbishments to new openings. The £1 billion, multi-year programme is designed to offer the very best products, service and shops for customers.
In the past month, Waitrose has opened two brand new Little Waitrose shops – at The Arches, Bristol and Wandsworth New Acres – with a multitude of store transformations still to come.
The retailer has also announced a new 360,000 sq ft distribution centre at Mountpark’s Bristol 360 which will deliver to around 50 current Waitrose shops, with the capacity to accommodate more. In addition, in 2027, Waitrose’s first new full-line supermarket for seven years will open at Brabazon, an award-winning new town in Bristol. The 30,000 sq ft store will create around 150 new jobs.
