Michelle Keegan’s hit BBC drama returned for its second series on Sunday, but some viewers weren’t impressed with the new episode.

Viewers of Ten Pound Poms quickly expressed their disappointment just minutes into the new series on Sunday (March 9), lamenting the same issue.

The popular drama returned on BBC One tonight after a successful first run in 2022. The series chronicles the story of Brits seeking a better life in Australia in 1956, but they soon discover that the reality isn’t as rosy as the £10 ticket they were promised.

As the eagerly anticipated second season resumed tonight, fans rapidly vented on X (formerly Twitter) their annoyance at the three-year hiatus since the first. The lengthy gap left many struggling to recall characters and plot details.

“So long for S2 to come out, I’ve forgotten who’s who from the 1st season,” voiced one viewer, while another decided: “Given up, going to check out millionaire instead.”

Confusion was apparent as another chimed in: “Who the hell is this baker? I can’t remember a damn thing,” reports Wales Online.

A fourth fan shared their exasperation: “It’s been two years since the first season. How is anyone expected to remember anything? I’ve literally lost the plot. Disconnected, no longer invested. Too long between seasons.”

Yet, amidst the frustration, some welcomed the show’s return, with a fan remarking: “Nice to have #TenPoundPoms back. I enjoyed the first series, and it’s a good start to this one.”

“I have missed this show, so good to have it back!! The cast are incredibly talented,” another enthused, while a third chimed in: “Great Sunday night viewing.”

In the latest instalment, Michelle Keegan returns as nurse Kate Thorne, who found herself in Australia on a mission to locate her son, Michael.

The drama escalated in tonight’s episode, with Kate and Michael becoming fugitives after she snatched him from his adoptive parents. The tension peaked when Michael yearned for his adoptive parents, leaving Kate heartbroken.

Struggling with the weight of her actions, Kate sought solace in her friend Annie (Faye Marsay).

“I can see by the look in your face, I know it’s madness. But what would you have done, Annie? He’s my boy. He’s mine, I brought him into this world, he belongs to me,” Kate confessed.

Kate’s plan to escape to New Zealand and eventually return to the UK with Michael was fraught with the reality that he missed his adoptive mother.

Annie’s intervention led to a tentative agreement with Michael’s adoptive mother, Fran, but unbeknownst to Kate, Fran had already alerted the authorities. The episode concluded with a shocked Kate being apprehended by the police for the abduction.
