For one dog owner, the quiet stillness of their home while away was once a comforting thought. They had assumed their beloved pet, Cody, a seemingly relaxed canine, spent his days alone napping peacefully. That was until they installed a pet camera.
A video shared to TikTok on January 8 by the dog’s owner under @thecodyboy shattered that illusion, revealing how the canine actually spends his alone time. The video, which has amassed more than 308,000 views and 11,000 likes, captured Cody’s energetic zoomies while his owners had thought he was sleeping.
Viewers on TikTok were able to see Cody lying on the floor in an innocent, still position, appearing to be deep in slumber. Then, the video transitioned to a completely different scene—Cody, wide-awake, barking and howling, pacing around the house, and even chewing household items.
An overlaid text on the video read: “I thought he slept all day when he was home alone but then I got a camera … He actually doesn’t sleep at all … What if he’s sleep deprived … He’s too busy waiting for us …”
The revelation that Cody was not spending his time resting, but instead anxiously waiting for his humans to return, has struck a chord with TikTok viewers. Many flooded the comments section with both sympathy and humor, relating the situation to their own pets.
“He looks like he is living his best life,” one viewer said.
Another added: “My dog sleeps one end of the sofa and my cat sleeps the other end.”
“There’s literally no point in me leaving my dog at home and getting a camera … I would not concentrate on ANYTHING else while out as would be glued to watching the camera and rushing home,” another said.
Another added: “I’m so extremely blessed to have a job I can do from my apartment. My puppy is spoiled, I also have an issue if I leave him more than six hours.”
“This is why I don’t think I could get a camera what I see would make to too sad,” another said.
One viewer said: “My dog sleeps one end of the sofa and my cat sleeps the other end.”
“I noticed my dog does the same thing when I leave the house I can’t even look at the camera I feel so bad,” another added.
Another said: “Mine are asleep every time I check the cameras.”
Some viewers, touched by the dog’s reaction, suggested solutions such as playing calming music, using interactive toys, or even considering doggy day care.
“My dog watches paw patrol all day when I’m out,” one viewer suggested.
“I take mine for long walks before I leave and also turn the TV on for them so they have some relaxing background noise,” another added.
“That is so sad my fur baby goes to doggy day care,” another said.
