Like so many cooking staples—butter, ground meat, and eggs—extra virgin olive oil prices have skyrocketed over the past few years. To maintain grocery budgets, some home cooks have switched to cheaper olive oil types. If you love the taste of extra virgin olive oil, but struggle with the product’s growing price, you may want to visit your local Dollar Tree.
Dollar Tree is known for its budget pricing, but, in recent years, the brand’s prices have gone up, from $1 to $1.25 to $1.50—and higher. It’s been hard to shell over that extra money at the Dollar Tree till, but the price increase has come with one particular benefit. The higher price means the store now carries a whole new range of products that are impossible to sell for $1.50, yet still cheaper than other retailers.
High quality olive oil is one such product. Dollar Tree now sells a popular brand of Italian-imported extra virgin olive oil found at other retailers, like Kroger, Walmart, or Target, and the price can’t be beat.

For more than 150 years, Tuscany-based Bertolli has sold its Italian olive oil—and later sauces and packaged pastas—to the world. Now, you can find the brand’s signature product—extra virgin olive oil—at Dollar Tree. And it’s the cheapest I’ve seen in quite some time.
Bertolli Extra Virgin Olive Oil is now available at Dollar Tree in 8.45-ounce bottles for $3.75. That makes it a little more than 44 cents per ounce. The smaller sized bottle is not easily found elsewhere, but the next size up costs 74 cents per ounce at Kroger, 50 cents at Target, and 50.1 cents at Walmart. So, unless you’re buying in bulk, this Dollar Tree deal may be the best bet.
Kroger shoppers call this olive oil a “staple in my kitchen,” and their “favorite supermarket EVOO.” Using extra virgin olive oil is especially important when using for foods like dressings, or finishing dishes when you want the fruity taste of the oil to shine. You can cook with EVOO at a low heat as well, but the taste may change if it over heats, or it may get smoky.
If you’re looking to stock up on kitchen staples without sacrificing more from your grocery budget, consider doing some shopping at Dollar Tree. Not only can you pick up this trusted olive oil for 44 cents per ounce, but you can also pick up snacks, condiments, and spices for cheaper than most grocery retailers.
