A rare coin could be the key to a small fortune, and it’s been causing quite a stir recently. Whether it’s the one penny piece hailed as the ‘rarest in UK history’ or an unusual 20p with a design flaw, these little treasures have been making headlines.
But now, it’s not pennies we’re talking about, but a one pound coin that you need to keep your eyes peeled for. According to a coin expert known as @CoinCollectingWizard on Instagram, this particular coin is set to be the “rarest of 2025”.
With a following of 33,000, his predictions are taken seriously by many. In a recent post, he announced: “The rarest UK coin of 2025!”

He was referring to the newly minted Bee £1 coin, which has just entered circulation in the UK, reports the Mirror. He continued: “It’s already being called the rarest coin of the year.
“With such a low mintage, this is the one everyone will be hunting for in their change throughout 2025. If you find one, don’t let it go – collectors will be desperate to get their hands on it!”
According to Change Checker, the 2025 Bee £1 coin is even rarer than both the Salmon and Kew Gardens 50p coins. The Royal Mint has confirmed that 30.8 million new £1 coins are entering circulation across the UK.
However, with so few of these coins in circulation, it’s highly unlikely you’ll stumble upon one by chance. But don’t give up your search – if you do manage to find one, it could be worth a pretty penny.
Approximately 2.9 million of the 2023 Bee £1 coins were released into circulation in August 2024. Due to its limited mintage and being the first circulating £1 coin featuring King Charles III’s portrait, collectors are eagerly searching for it.
To verify your £1 coins, ensure you check the date on the obverse, as well as the micro-engraving on the reverse. It’s also beneficial to compare mintage and review recent sold prices to gauge its potential value.
